Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is an essential mineral that helps to strengthen tooth enamel, and prevent tooth decay. Fluoride is known as a safe compound found in the air, water and a variety of foods. Many people are unaware that every drinking supply (including some private wells), in the US community, contains traces of sodium fluoride – which is considered effective for fighting tooth decay and it is safe to consume orally.

When fluoride is consumed, it helps prevent tooth decay and bone fractures. Fluoride helps repair damaged caused by decay through the process of remineralization.

Will Drinking Public Water Alone Provide Sufficient Fluoride Protection?

Although drinking public water provides fluoride protection, health experts recommend supplementing our intake with fluoride toothpaste and dietary products. You can also increase your fluoride intake with dental gels and varnishes that can be placed on the teeth.

Dental Fluoride

For patients, 18 and younger, a dentist will perform fluoride treatment on the teeth. Once the fluoride is applied, for one minute, the patient is advised not to rinse it out for 30-minutes. The fluoride application strengthens the enamel and helps prevent decay.
