Flossing

Flossing

What is Dental Floss and Why is it Necessary?

Flossing is an essential step in maintaining healthy oral hygiene. Dental floss consists of a thin string that is either plain, flavored, waxed or unwaxed. Flossing can be an unusual process, at first. However, once you get the hang of it, it will become second nature.

Step-by-Step Instructions on How to Use Floss:

Step 1: Wrap dental floss between the thumb and forefinger while using both hands. Start with the molars.

Step 2: Wrap floss around each tooth.

Step 3: Work it in an upward and downward motion, a few times, on both sides of the tooth. This step helps in the removal of food particles and plaque build-up.

Don’t be alarmed if you notice a small amount of bleeding, this is a normal process. Bleeding will subside after a few attempts. Flossing should become a daily routine in order to maintain healthy dental hygiene.
